Black Pepper comes from a flowering vine that produces small fruits known as peppercorns. Black pepper comes from peppercorns that are cooked and dried. Pepper is native to South and Southeast Asia. Pepper gets its spicy heat flavor from the piperine compound, which is found both in the outer fruit and in the seed. Pepper loses its flavor through evaporation and often pepper bought in stores has had its oil harvested for other uses. Our peppercorns are fresh and still hold their natural piperine.
